EDUCATION PROGRAM
The grades for the 2025-2026 school year are finally in, and they are a testimony to the best year ever since the "Better Future Through Education" Program started 16 years ago.
_ Of the 100 students from the 12 schools participating in the Program, 97 achieved a passing grade. that is an unheard of 97% success rate.
_ 10 of the schools had all of their students promoted. One school had one failure, and one school had 2 failures.
_ Of the 9th graders in the Program, 17 out of the 17 students have successfully completed their last year in the Program. All of them took the Department of Education's required and administered exam which they must pass in order to move forward in their education. All of them passed. We plan to have a farewell party for them probably next month. no date has been chosen yet.
_ The 2026-2027 roster is completed. The number of students in the Education Program is 100, just as it was last year. Eighty-one children are returning, and nineteen are new, mainly from our waiting list, replacing the departing 9th graders. There are 59 girls and 41 boys.
_ The New school year started last week. The Liaison, is currently visiting the schools (there are 12 schools participating in the Program, this year. He is settling accounts with the schools for all the children. After the completion of that task, there will be a meeting with all the parents. Then, after that, the celebration of the 9th graders leaving the program.
_ For the 2025-2026 school year, we had 25 sponsors supporting the education of 40 of our 100 children. We expect the number of students sponsored this year to be larger than that this year.
HAITI HOPE HOUSE LEARNING CENTER
_ The most significant news about the HHH Learning Center is the replacement of our Solar Energy System Batteries. Because of the violence and political instability caused by the gangs in the country, the completion of this task has been languishing for almost two years. The biggest problem was the safe transportation of the heavy batteries from the point of purchase to Mizak. Thanks God we managed to do it about two months ago.
_ Another significant Learning Center news is the arrival on site of 3 new laptops which were badly needed for the efficient operation of the Learning Center, especially the Media room. Using the same pipeline that helped us get the batteries there, we also got the laptops there in June. The Liaison had to ride his motorcycle more than 4 hours each way to pick them up.
_ The Learning Center also received a new coat of paint inside and outside, the first one since it was inaugurated in 2018.
_ A major restart of the Library took place last month. It was initiated by a group of young people in the community with the support of the Liaison. It has been reported that the effort has begun to bear fruit. There is more traffic in the Library. We are working hard at enlarging the Library's book inventory. This time, we are running into a supply chain problem.
